Environmental Manager
Responsible for maintaining compliance with applicable environmental federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances permits, and registrations.
Reports to the General Manager at each site. The Environmental Supervisor and Operators report to the Environmental Manager.
Responsibilities :
- Maintain all applicable environmental federal, state, and local laws, permits, registrations, and regulations for both facilities.
- Perform and / or manage all compliance work required under the Company’s Permits General Permit registrations and other registrations.
- Meet all regulatory and internal suspense dates well in advance to preclude notices of violations, fines, etc.
- Ability to operate the two wastewater treatment facilities.
- Supervise and train the wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) operators.
- Maintain and train backup WWTF operators for all production shifts discharging wastewater.
- Supervise and train all personnel handling waste.
- Maintain Health & Safety Manager all required training for self and personnel under all applicable regulatory programs.
- Ensure that the Contingency Plan is robust and accurate and is reviewed, maintained, and distributed.
- Maintain records and reporting on company Sustainability matters.
- Ability to lead the Sustainability Council.
- Maintain and implement management systems, including ISO 14001.
- Ability to develop scopes of work and to manage contractors.
- Familiar with environmental site investigation and remediation.
- Ability to perform environmental audits and assessments.
- Develop and maintain working familiarity with Plating and Production.
- Assist Managers and Directors in problem-solving.
- Work closely with outside Environmental counsel and Company consultants and contractors.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all Company personnel and with affiliated companies.
- 24-hour availability for emergencies and troubleshooting.
Requirements :
- 5+ years’ experience in a multi-media environmental job - in a plant or manufacturing facility is a big plus.
- A college degree from an accredited university or college - in a related field is a plus.
- Certified hazardous material manager, certified safety professional or other EHS-related certifications are a plus.
- Highly organized in all aspects of the job, including the ability to maintain filing systems (electronic and paper) in accordance with company protocols and ISO 14001.
- Basic understanding of chemistry or willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of environmental science or willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment facility operation or willingness to learn.
- Skilled in MS Office including Excel.
- Adaptable and flexible.
- Ability to communicate effectively and nicely with people in a wide variety of jobs (senior, lateral, and subordinate) both verbally and in writing.
- Experienced in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
