Summary :

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist-HQ with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's Federal contracting / work.

Responsibilities :

Implement Mortenson’s environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities.

Essential requirements :

  • Develop site specific environmental plans and activities
  • Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs
  • Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management
  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections
  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements
  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
  • Interface with customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.
  • Assist in the development company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of four years related experience
  • Experience with Federal contracting / work
  • Experience with Industrial and Manufacturing work / permitting
  • Experience with hazardous building materials, survey and abatement
  • Experience with waste streams and associated compliance obligations
  • Experience with Environmental Due Diligence (as it pertains to property acquisition)
  • Experience with Minor and Major Source Air Permitting
  • Significant experience with two or more of the following areas : erosion prevention and sediment control, storm water pollution prevention plans, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, wetlands, endangered species
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player
  • Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies
  • Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, ., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)
  • Current driver’s license
  • Able to travel up to 50%

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field
