OVERVIEW :
Our client is looking for a highly motivated Senior Fuel Handling Mechanical Design Engineer to focus on designing mechanical fuel handling and process systems for advanced nuclear reactor projects.
The role involves coordinating with engineers and working within a high-performing team.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Design nuclear fuel handling equipment and components from requirements through final design
- Provide support for the design of fuel handling equipment and processes
- Complete designs using engineering principles, calculations, drawings, and software tools
- Write technical reports documenting design work
- Lead technical areas within projects, overseeing equipment or system development
- Ensure correct design codes are applied, including ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA standards
- Coordinate with cross-discipline teams (mechanical, controls, civil, nuclear) to specify design criteria
- Provide oversight and technical direction on supplier projects, ensuring delivery of data and conducting technical reviews
- Develop system requirements, testing programs, and design documentation
- Support design reviews and licensing activities related to safety analysis
REQUIREMENTS :
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 8-15 years of experience in mechanical systems design, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems
- Proven skills in complex mechanical system design and high-temperature, multi-discipline integration
- Strong experience with ASME BPVC, Section III, Division 1 and / or 5 standards, required.
- Experience with nuclear reactors or high-performance systems required
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to lead and coordinate design teams with minimal supervision
- Experience with ASME NQA-1 quality standards in design activities
