Groundwork Northeast Revitalization Group (GWNRG) is a 501c3 community development and environmental justice organization in northeast Wyandotte County.

We build and advocate for green spaces, climate-resilient infrastructure, cultural preservation, food sovereignty, digital equity, and housing justice in the historic Northeast neighborhoods of Kansas City, Kansas.

The Programs Director will oversee organization-wide program implementation, collaborate with other staff to develop short to mid-range project and program strategy, train and manage 3 program coordinators and 4 Green Team members.

Reports to Executive Director.

Our programs include :

Built Environment and Environmental Justice Programs

  • Heritage Trail : install art, memorials, and signage that celebrate NEKCK history, along with recreational trails. Host the annual Bird Lives! Charlie Parker Festival
  • Green Team : staff manage green infrastructure projects including installing native plant landscaping, and community gardening in vacant lots and park spaces
  • Northeast Grocers Brownfield Renovation : oversee a $500,000+ environmental remediation of the future site of the Northeast Grocers.

Education and Advocacy Programs

  • Digital Equity : teach computer classes for residents of all ages, increase internet access in NEKCK, and manage a laptop library with an inventory of 50 Chromebooks
  • Learn to Earn : educate and mentor children ages 11-15 on environmental science, environmental justice, social-emotional skills, and nutrition in summer and afterschool programs
  • Housing & Land Advocacy : canvass homes listed in semi-annual Wyandotte County property tax sales, pay property taxes as possible with grants or fundraising, build a base of community advocates for equitable housing and land bank policies and protocols

Position Responsibilities

Program Management and Implementation

  • Manage day to day operations of GWNRG’s programs and program staff (3 program coordinators and 4 Green Team members)
  • Oversee team and organizational planning, strategy, and evaluation, including through participating in and facilitating meetings, and tracking programmatic performance measures.
  • Support the design of, implement and evaluate high-quality programs for youth and adults
  • Supervise three program coordinators and 4 Green Team members
  • Participate in community and regional advocacy efforts and engage neighbors in those efforts
  • Ensure compliance with the work plan, logic models, grant deliverables and projected benchmarks
  • Complete accurate and timely written reports that reflect project status and progress made toward the accomplishment of project goals.
  • Bring in grants through relationship building with funders and successful grant application submissions. Supported by org-wide grant writer.

Administration

  • Plan and coordinate meetings and events, including scheduling, reminders, preparing agendas, circulating documents, critical note-taking and tracking of action commitments, agenda preparation, researching and arranging venues and vendors, designing and executing registration processes, liaising with attendees, etc.
  • Manage operations and administrative tasks for the team, including program management and scheduling
  • Support the creation of the expense budget for all programs.
  • Facilitate contracts and invoices, coordinating team and external expenses
  • Research and prepare materials for meetings and presentations.
  • Oversee HR duties for all program staff including disciplinary action, PTO approvals, timely submission of timecards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Five (5) or more years program management experience
  • Experience managing staff and volunteers
  • Past success in coalition building and advocacy
  • Ability to work well as a team and with diverse communities
  • Grassroots / community organizing experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft office
  • Bilingual English / Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with children and / or schools
  • Commitment to mission of Groundwork NRG
  • Ability to articulate and operationalize Groundwork NRG’s values
  • Understanding of the Just Transition Framework, Cooperative Leadership principles, and Conflict Resolution techniques.

Hours Full time, salaried. Position status is exempt. Frequent evenings and some weekends required

Salary $72,000 annual salary. Annual 6% raises.

Benefits Groundwork NRG employees pay only $1 / month for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401k with employer matching, Employee Assistance Program.

Employees accrue 22+ days of PTO per year.
