Courtroom Assistant

The Courtroom Assistant coordinates courtroom proceedings in the Initial Appearance (IA) court where the accused are entitled to arraignment within 24 hours of arrest. In addition, the Courtroom Assistant processes time sensitive paperwork such as search warrants, arrest warrants and direct complaints. The Courtroom Assistant is a vital part of the administrative support team that ensures smooth case flow in support of the daily operations of the Judicial Branch.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please apply if you meet the following required qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience OR
  • Post-secondary education may be considered in substitution for one (1) year of the required experience.

Our preferred candidate has :

  • Experience in a court or legal environment, or other experience that would demonstrate possession of the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of :

  • Court policies and procedures, legal terminology, customer service standards and procedures.
  • Superior Court and Justice Courts Programs.
  • Case-flow management.
  • County Attorney, Public Defender, Victim Advocate, Federal Probation, Superior Court, Justice Courts, Municipal Courts and Adult Probation Programs.
  • Skill in :

  • Computer software such as Integrated Court Information System (iCIS), MS Office software such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Providing excellent customer service.
  • Preparation of statistical reports.
  • Ability to :

  • Multitask and cope with high volume and a time critical work environment.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with others.
  • Understand and accurately brief oral and written instructions.
  • Make sound decisions in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • This position works a schedule that requires day work consisting of four, ten-hour shifts located in a secured, jail facility environment, including nights and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to communicate clearly, perceive details of objects that are close by, and maintain various physical positions for extended periods, such as sitting, standing, or walking. The job may involve using hands for tasks such as typing, handling objects, or operating tools, as well as reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
