All pharmacy technicians work under the direction ofClinical Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services with compassion,excellence and efficiency.
CHRISTUSSanta Rosa Hospital San Marcos, which originated in 1923 as HaysCounty Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, opened atits current Wonder World Drive location in 1983.

In addition tointerventional cardiac services, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital SanMarcos is a Certified Chest Pain Center and an accredited PrimaryStroke Center.
We lead the region in da Vinci robotic-assistedsurgery and offers a variety of specialty care services includingmedical imaging, rehabilitation, hospice, women’s services andmore.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies : Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Pharmacy Technicians perform ONLY non-judgmental technical dutiesunder the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Operational Duties and Responsibilities
- AssistPharmacists with Medication Histories.
- Train Tech Iassociates.
- Prepares drug orders per physicianrequest according to established policies, procedures andprotocols.
- Verifies computerized patient medicationrecords accurately. Maintains, accurate, complete patient drugrecord.
- Compounds pharmaceuticals includingnon-sterile and sterile products, chemotherapy and parenteralnutrition products accurately.
- Issues controlledsubstances to patient care areas and maintains records as requiredby law and institutional policies.
- Provides servicesefficiently and in a timely fashion.
- Verifies thedaily activities of the department are complete and recorded.
- Maintains competency required for current jobtitle / position
- Maintains current technician license.Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintained indepartment files. Attends staff meetings.
- Maintain IVcertification and competencies.
- Completes allcompetency / skills assessment requirements.
- Specialtyarea
- Serves as the technician in specialty areas suchas the operating room, IV room, or pharmacy work areas outside thecentral pharmacy.
- Ambulatory care
- Provides ambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned suchas but not limited to : anticoagulation clinics, intensive medicalhome, transition of care, Discharge Medication reconciliation,etc.
- Retail
- Performs outpatientdistributive functions related to entering prescriptions orders,selecting the correct medications for new and refilled prescriptionorders, and coordinates delivery of medications for patient pick-upor delivery.
Clinical Duties andResponsibilities
- Ensures safe, appropriate,cost-effective drug therapies for patients according to establishedpolicies, procedures, and protocols.
- Reads, extractsand interprets information in patient medical records accurately.
- Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactionsaccurately and in a timely manner.
- Sustains thehospital drug formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements,utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols and promoting rationaldrug therapy selection.
- Provides accurate, adequateand timely drug information to the hospital’s pharmacyassociates.
- Coordinates pharmacist drug education topatients and their families per institutional protocol.
- Participates in the quality improvement and medication usereview activities of the department. Collects data, conductsmonitors and inspections and maintains logs, records and otherdocumentation as assigned.
- Conducts designatedinterventions as defined in department Clinical Interventionactivities (IV to PO, Renal Dosing, Pharmacokinetic dosing support,Anticoagulation)
- Baseline departmental standards forreporting interventions for clinical productivity as defined bydepartmental goals.
- Provides services efficiently andin a timely fashion

- Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxicsubstances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs andcleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharpitems.
- Risk 0 exposure category.
- Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting andcarrying techniques are not used. Potential exposure to biologicmaterial when participating in direct patient care activities (e.
g. patient education, code attendance).
Requirements :
- High School Diploma or equivalentrequired
- 3-5 years of pharmacy technicianexperience preferred
- Meet allcriteria of Pharmacy Technician I
- RegisteredPharmacy Technician in the state of practice required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technicianpreferred.
- ACPE accredited IV certificationprogram, including hazardous (minimum 40 hours); or meet minimumState requirement. Not applicable to Ambulatory Care settings orRetail settings.
