Position Overview
As part of the On A Roll team, the Wheelchair Repair Technician performs activities to support the adjustment and repair of wheelchairs and other rehabilitation devices for members.
This includes communication and coordination with members, internal staff and external providers. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of On A Roll.
Essential Functions
- Provides excellent customer service and maintains relationships with members, ICS staff and suppliers with regard to equipment needs.
- Evaluates and repairs motorized and manual wheelchairs.
- Completes and submits proper documentation on a timely basis, and alerts Repair Manager when parts are needed to complete the repair of a wheelchair.
- Collaborates with Repair Manager on the implementation of the road calls identifying loaner chairs needed for particular members and coordination of tools and / or parts needed for a stop are available and taken to the appointment as needed.
- Collaborates with other technicians in establishing and implementing the daily work plan to include road calls, in shop evaluations and completed repairs.
- Maintains a fleet of loaner chairs; including the cleaning and repair of returned loaner wheelchairs.
- Informs Repair Manager of the availability of loaner chairs when requested.
- Complies with department policy regarding the handling and storage of new and used mobility devices in or adjacent to clinical areas.
- Travels throughout New York City to pick up, transport, deliver and install wheelchairs and other rehab equipment to and from workshops and to members in all parts of the city.
- Document in electronic record the daily repair activities and those activities planned for a member’s specific equipment repair need.
- Respond to the needs of members and the organization, even if those needs do not coincide with the details of this job description.
The hourly pay is between $18.00-$20.00 Per hour. This is a part time position, 10 - 20 hours per week.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and travel extensively throughout the 4 boroughs of NYC
- Some experience in wheelchair repair, auto mechanics, small engine repair, computer hardware, or other related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year experience with repair and maintenance of wheelchairs and other DME or mechanical devices.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.
