As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend Services on the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team at Roblox, your primary responsibility will be to design and implement highly scalable, tier 0 backend systems that are crucial for protecting Roblox's most sensitive data.

This role is a unique opportunity to develop your skills in the security domain without having prior security experience - you'll develop valuable expertise in Identity and access management (IAM), public key infrastructure (PKI), and other key security domains.

This role offers a unique blend of engineering and security work, allowing you to grow your skills while ensuring the resilience and safety of our platform.

You will :

  • Engineer High-Availability Systems : Design and implement scalable, tier 0 backend systems for Roblox's hybrid production environment, ensuring robust protection against unauthorized access.
  • Collaborate Across Teams : Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless adoption of IAM services and to support the broader goals of the Roblox platform.
  • Develop Expertise in Security and IAM : Gain valuable experience in identity and access management (IAM), PKI, and other security domains by working on critical services that power these areas for Roblox.

You have :

  • Expertise in High-Availability Architectures : Strong understanding of scalable system architectures, including experience with load balancing, distributed systems, and failover strategies to ensure service availability.
  • Proven Track Record of Delivery : You have a demonstrated history of delivering high-quality code for complex projects on time, consistently meeting deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of code quality and performance.
  • Security Awareness : While a security background is not required, an awareness of security best practices or a willingness to learn more about it is important.
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience in building scalable, available, distributed backend applications.
  • Proficient with at least one object-oriented programming language (Python, Java, Go, C++, C# .NET).
  • Knowledgeable with REST API, design patterns, and scalable containerized systems and microservices.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA : The starting base pay for this position is as shown below.

The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand.

Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$218,540 $283,780 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
