What's your day like?

The Full-Time Network & Support Manager at the City of Pharr plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Network & Support division, ensuring regular attendance and hands-on presence at all City facilities. This position involves managing a dedicated team while providing comprehensive network management and administration to enhance system efficiency and business continuity. You'll be involved in network design assessments, working closely with the Broadband team on city-wide fiber optic networks, and managing work orders to track and resolve technical issues. Furthermore, you will coordinate installations and support for communication equipment, oversee private and public wireless networks, and deliver routine performance reports.

As a technical advisor, you’ll assist various departments with technology solutions, develop best practices, and manage projects from inception to completion, all while offering exceptional user support and training. Additionally, flexibility for on-call assignments ensures that critical functions remain supported after hours, making this a dynamic and impactful role in our organization.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are :

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of broadband infrastructure technologies, including fiber, wireless, and last-mile solutions.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts : IPv4 / IPv6. subnetting, VLANs, routing, and QoS.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication systems : SIP, DIDs, VoIP / PBX configuration, and call routing.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, standards, and regulatory requirements related to computer systems in municipal sector.

Skills

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and scalable networks.
  • Using monitoring tools to track system performance, reliability, and capacity.
  • Project management, including planning, coordination, and vendor / contract oversight.
  • Supervising, training and developing technical staff.
