Our non-profit's core mission is to provide housing and break the cycle of homelessness. This is a full-time, temp-to-hire position with a starting pay rate of $23+ per hour, depending on experience.
Job Description
As a Compliance Occupancy Specialist, your primary responsibility is to allocate income-eligible
applicants to restricted or program-specific housing units. Your role involves ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to the LIHTC and HOME programs, as well as various federal and state-assisted initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews and process eligible households, verifying their compliance with initial move in regulatory requirements.
- Carefully review all application and certification documents, making approval or denial decisions based on specific program compliance across multiple sites.
- Assist in coordinating the initial lease-ups of projects, ensuring applications are processed in a timely and accurate manner according to regulatory agreements, Tax Credit Compliance, and, if applicable, Section 8 guidelines.
- Prepare for and actively participate in annual compliance audits conducted by state and local agencies.
- Attend routine educational programs to stay updated on the latest industry standards and enhance professional skills.
- Coordinate with the Rental Office staff to ensure prompt assignment of vacant units.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field, with one to two years of relevant experience in affordable housing;
- alternatively, an associate degree with business coursework and three or more years of relevant experience in affordable housing;
or a minimum of five years of relevant experience in affordable housing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Experience using Yardi software.
- Strong knowledge of LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) and familiarity with other affordable housing programs.
