Duties and Responsibilities
Assist project implementation under the direction of the Hawaii Family Engagement Center (HFEC) Principal Investigator, Project Coordinator, and Project Staff with duties including, but not limited to, the following :
- Assist in coordinating, developing, and providing statewide training programs that build the capacity of the state education agency, school-level staff and personnel, families, and community based organizations to engage in effective partnerships that support student achievement and school improvement.
- Assist with developing content, coordinating, and maintaining project social media accounts and website presence.
- Support planning and event coordination of in-person and / or virtual conferences, stakeholder meetings, and training (including light lifting).
- Support the development and facilitation of online family engagement in education training content for educators and families.
- Assist with the collection, analysis, and evaluation of project data.
- Research and summarize information from documents and academic literature on family engagement for conducting research, generating training and technical assistance products, and grant writing.
- Document project activities for the purposes of tracking project progress and federal project reporting.
- Manage project contacts to aid project information dissemination.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Classified graduate status in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA) in a degree-seeking graduate program at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to edit written products such as articles, newsletters, web posts, training manuals, tool kits, and lesson plans.
- Experience in writing research reports using qualitative / quantitative data.
- Proficiency in the following applications : Zoom, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.
- Organizational skills that include attention to detail and ability to self-initiate / motivate.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in an occasionally fast-paced office or field environment as part of a team.
- Ability and willingness to work occasionally on evenings and weekends as needed in support of community outreach and project programming.
- Ability and willingness to travel independently to various geographical site / project locations statewide in a timely manner.
- Ability to perform light physical work including moving or lifting of items such as, but not limited to, boxes, files, and papers.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree and / or academic background in education, social work, sociology, or psychology.
- Experience, interest in, or sensitivity working with vulnerable student or family populations including those from low-income backgrounds, parents of English learners, minorities, students with disabilities, children and youth experiencing homelessness, children and youth in foster care, and migrant students.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, training, or leading workshops and web seminars; or providing support to schools, educators, parents, and community organizations on family engagement in education policies and practices.
- Training or credential in Family Engagement.
- One (1) year experience with course management systems and e-learning environments such as Laulima and or Canvas.
- Experience using Canva, Visme, Slack, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, and / or video editing applications.
