Like a startup CTO in the field, you'll wear many hats : part backend developer, part full-stack engineer, part problem solver. You'll operate with autonomy, adapt to shifting requirements, and bring technical clarity to ambiguous problems-all while collaborating with mission stakeholders, data scientists, and the Chief Product Officer team. This role requires an Active TS / SCI security clearance and availability to collocate with our defense and national security customers in the Pentagon.

Responsibilities

Own technical delivery : Design and implement software solutions across multiple government deployments, from first prototype to stable mission use.

Embed with customers : Partner with mission stakeholders to understand requirements, translate needs into technical approaches, and deliver capabilities that directly support operations.

Full-stack development : Build and maintain scalable applications using Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, React, Node.js, and modern web frameworks.

Backend architecture : Develop and optimize APIs, databases, and cloud-based services to support secure, high-performance mission applications.

Deliver clarity under ambiguity : Scope projects, remove blockers, and make informed trade-offs between speed, scope, and quality.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

3-5+ years of software engineering or technical deployment experience, ideally in customer-facing or government environments.

Hands-on experience building and deploying full-stack applications using Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, MEAN , and Node.js.

Experience designing and maintaining APIs and backend services.

Familiarity with cloud deployment models (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, etc.).

Ability to translate customer needs into actionable technical approaches and deliver solutions in fast-moving or ambiguous contexts.

Proven track record of scoping and delivering complex systems under tight timelines.

Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI / CD, and secure software development for government environments.

Target salary range : $141,000 - 245,000.

The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a gu arantee of compensation. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances.
