The Appeals Review Officer serves as a departmental specialist ensuring due process for Department of Health & Human Services providers and beneficiaries in accordance with relevant state and federal laws. This role involves representing the department in beneficiary hearings, conducting reviews, and applying in-depth knowledge of Medicaid policy and administrative law. The position supports the mission of promoting a healthy, safe, and stable environment through legal appeals and compliance oversight within the health and human services sector.

The individual in this position functions as a staff specialist to insure due process for Department of Health & Human Service (MDHHS) providers and beneficiaries. This due process is outlined in the Social Welfare Act, Provider and Hearing Rules, the Federal Fair Hearings Act, and the Public Act of 1939 as amended. This person must possess in depth knowledge of Medicaid policy, Administrative Law and Federal and State laws as the position is responsible for representing MDHHS in beneficiary hearings, conducting Department Reviews and performing other duties assigned by the position's supervisor.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Additional Requirements and Information

The physical location of this position is 235 S. Grand Ave, Lansing, MI . Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
