The Bipolar Disorder Center at The University of Texas at Austin invite applications for a full-time, Associate Provider, specifically, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), functioning as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
We are seeking a highly self-motivated yet team-oriented individual with a commitment to evidence-based clinical care; care program development and implementation;
teaching; and research, to join the outstanding interdisciplinary faculty and staff at our Academic Health Care System, who collectively strive to deliver exemplary and outstanding value-based, patient-centered care.
Our Bipolar Disorder Center is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and team-based program that assesses and cares for adult patients with bipolar disorder.
This position has an end date of 8 / 31 / 25, renewable based upon availability of funding and work performance.
Purpose
T he primary role of this position is to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, peer support specialists and pharmacists, to formulate and implement comprehensive assessment and treatment plans for complex adult and transition age youth with bipolar disorder.
This position is responsible for providing psychiatric care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients and family members and works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care.
This position will include a mix of clinical outpatient care (in person and via telemedicine), coordination of care, administrative responsibilities, and research.
Responsibilities
Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient / family interviews and chart reviews; assessing / presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors;
and performing appropriate physical examination. Utilizes structured clinical interviews as indicated. Orders / performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests.
Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing / dispensing medications and / or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws.
Seeks other information as needed. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
Instructs patient / family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health promotion / illness prevention.
Participates or leads education and outreach efforts to patients, families and communities. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient / family needs.
Communicates appropriate care coordination and case management information to other professionals and community agencies.
Participates in clinical trials investigating new psychiatric treatments and other research projects. Participates in projects for studying clinical quality, safety and outcomes.
Participates in analysis of clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency to improve value-based, high quality health care paradigms.
Participates in continuing clinical education to ensure continued certification and that clinical knowledge and skills are up to date and relevant for neurosurgical and neuroscience practices.
Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment in written / computerized manner.
Acts as consultant / collaborator to clinical team on area of specialty. Complies with patient confidentiality requirements.
Promotes patient advocacy. Collaborates with physicians in other specialties in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient.
Participates in building collaborative partnership models across disciplines with community physicians to ensure the provision of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care.
Participates or leads patient support groups with interdisciplinary providers (social work, rehab, physicians)
Provides evidence-based psychotherapy for bipolar disorder in a patient centered approach, such as, IPSRT, CBT, CBT-insomnia, DBT, Family Focused Therapy, MBCT, ACT, mood charting, safety planning, relapse prevention plan.
Attends and participates in meetings, committees and workgroups in support of all duties, as needed.
Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls / e-mails.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Participate in planning, directing, and evaluating all activities of the Bipolar Disorder Center.
Help coordinate and optimize the clinical operations of the center. Assists in development of staff resource utilization, hiring new staff, creating budget plans, contingency plans, quality assurance, work schedules and staff training.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications : Nurse Practitioner : Active RN and APNP license in State of Texas, in good standing, AND active board certification as a NP.
Applicants must have : Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire AND CPR certification and advanced life support certifications, if relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP).
Education : Nurse Practitioner : Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing
Program. Work Experience : At least one (1) year of experience in the inpatient and outpatient care of bipolar disorder and related disorders.
Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability, and strong critical thinking skills. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Proficiency with using electronic medical record systems.
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of experience in a psychiatric practice or other related facility. Experience with large research projects and clinical trials.
Working knowledge of and / or experience with Value-Based Healthcare Delivery models. Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency using Athena electronic medical records. Experience tracking, measuring, and using patient reported outcomes in developing treatment plans for patients.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Salary Range
$123,000+ depending on qualifications
