We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Pharmacy Intern.
In this role, the successful candidate under the immediate direction of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern acts as an assistant to a Licensed Pharmacist by filling medication cassettes, automated dispensing machines, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, and performing general organization of the pharmacy.
The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, licensing requirements and professional standards pertaining to storage and inventory control, dispensing and distribution of medication.
Operates pharmacy technology and medical systems in filling medication orders. Delivers patient specific medications. Processes controlled substances requisitions for pharmacist review, and subsequent delivery.
In addition the Intern may be called upon to assist in Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement projects and patient specific data collection.
Job Responsibilities :
Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Demonstrates proficiency when repacking needed doses.
Demonstrates proficiency in Aseptic Technique IV room procedures and USP
standards.
- Complete annual competency assessments. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates proficiency in extemporaneous compounding on non-sterile products including capsule, ointments, oral / topical solutions and other kits.
Demonstrates proficiency with Hospital Information System. Demonstrates proficiency with medication procurement, stocking and deliveries.
Demonstrates proficiency with the Automated Dispensing Machines. Demonstrates knowledge of State and Federal laws related to the handling of controlled substances.
Demonstrates proficiency with medication procurement process, stocking and deliveries to units in a timely manner. Assists with Security.
Assists pharmacists with nursing station reviews, QA / PI projects when needed. Completes annual competency assessments.
Maintains pharmacy inventory : checks stock; anticipate demands based on supply level and removal of outdated medications.
Cleans, sterilizes and maintains equipment and work areas according to procedures, rules, and regulations.Answers telephone with courtesy and promptness.
Triages phone calls, facilitates medication order workflow, trouble shoots medication order inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma. Excellent communication skills. Enrollment or Graduate of ACPE accredited college of Pharmacy or equivalent.
New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit.
Required Licenses : Pharmacy Intern Permit-NYS
