Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior API Developer / Tech Lead to join our API development team at the client. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and implementation of high-quality APIs that meet business and technical requirements. This hybrid role (3 days in-office) will involve working in a collaborative environment to deliver scalable and efficient API solutions, providing technical leadership, and driving the adoption of industry best practices across the team.

This position requires someone with strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of API architecture, and the ability to mentor and guide a team in solving complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

API Design & Development : Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-quality APIs, ensuring they meet both business and technical specifications.

Leadership & Mentorship : Provide technical leadership to the API development team. Mentor team members, foster a culture of innovation, and guide others to achieve technical excellence.

Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams-including product managers, architects, and other developers-to define API requirements and specifications.

API Optimization : Monitor and optimize API performance, ensuring that APIs are secure, scalable, and maintainable. Implement improvements where necessary.

Security & Best Practices : Ensure APIs adhere to security protocols and follow industry best practices in development.

Documentation : Document API designs, processes, and usage guidelines for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and ease of use.

Technical Strategy : Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in API development, integrating relevant advancements into our strategy.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution : Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to API integration and functionality.

Adoption of API-First Principles : Advocate for and drive the adoption of API-first principles across the organization.

Required Qualifications

Educational Background : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience :

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in API development.

At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or technical lead role.

Proven expertise in API design and development using REST, GraphQL, or similar technologies.

Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript (or similar programming languages).

Experience with API management platforms such as Kong, Apigee, or AWS API Gateway.

Solid understanding of security protocols and best practices in API development.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills , with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Technical Skills :

Experience with cloud services and infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Terraform, GitLab).

Experience with CI / CD pipelines , DevOps practices, and automation tools .

Familiarity with API gateway technologies such as Kong or Apigee .

Preferred Skills

Experience in cloud computing and DevOps methodologies.

Experience with data analytics or integrating APIs with data-driven applications .

Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively mentor and guide junior team members.

Experience working in Agile environments or with Agile methodologies.
