The Surgical andNeuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) has acombined total of 30 intensive care beds designed to providespecialized care to the critically ill adult (14 and older)patient.
The unit has a usual 50 / 50 split of patient populationbetween the neuro and surgical patient population.
Thefocus of care includes patients with life-threatening conditionsrelated to major elective and emergency surgical procedures,multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, stroke,seizure, sepsis / multi-organ system failure, hemodynamic instabilityand failure to wean.
The SICU and Neuro ICU patient needs encompassbut are not limited to comprehensive physical assessments,intensive monitoring, treatment of laboratory values, ventilatormanagement and hemodynamic monitoring.
SICU-Neuro ICUnurses require the following skill set - ICP monitoring via EVD andbolt, spinal drains / catheters, brain oxygen monitoring, Artic Suntherapy, continuous EEG, intra-arterial catheter, non-invasivecardiac output, mechanical ventilation, continuous renalreplacement therapy, reconstructive flap monitoring, and massiveblood transfusion among others.
Nursing will support the followingon-unit procedures including placement of arterial lines, centrallines, external ventricular drains and ICP monitors, SEPS drains,bedside bronchoscopy, abdominal washouts, tracheostomy,percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement, lumbarpunctures, chest tubes, pigtail drains andothers.
Hourly Range : $34.65 -$35.69
The nurse isresponsible for :
- Implementation of physicianorders, administers medications, starts IVs, performs treatments,procedures and special tests, and document treatment as required bycompany policy and local / state / federal rules and regulations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identifyand assess patients' conditions.
- Assess and evaluatepatient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
- Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care managementdecisions.
- Provide primary and emergency care foroccupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications asordered.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to create aPlan of Care for all patients.
- Direct and guideancillary personnel and maintain standards of professionalnursing.
- Graduate of a professional academicnursing program in which a Diploma, Associate Degree orBaccalaureate Degree is conferred
- Must hold currentNYS Registered Nurse license
- Obtain and maintainscertification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac LifeSupport (ACLS)
- Excellent communication,prioritization, organizational and time-management skills
- Possess knowledge of quality concepts, principles, andproblem-solving tools and techniques and demonstrates ability toapply in support of departmental and patient care qualityimprovement.
