With offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio, Pepper Construction is a national general contracting and construction management firm that primarily serves the private sector.

Pepper Construction provides clients the experience and resources of a national company, combined with the hands-on approach of a local company.

The Quality Manager serves as a resource to the project team in areas of project delivery, constructability, building technology, workflow and sequencing, and proper installation techniques.

This requires continuous prioritized training, education and mentoring for the project teams and its members. This position participates in Jobsite Quality Review Meetings and on-site observation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Works with the Director of Quality to understand details of each project to be efficient in project meetings and job site reviews.
  • Collaborates with the Project Teams to develop job specific quality procedures.
  • Reviews Construction Documents, Specifications, Shop Drawings, and Submittals with the intent to identify challenges and opportunities.
  • Serves as a technical resource to the project team in areas of project delivery, constructability, building technology, and quality.
  • Research products, systems, techniques, and emerging technologies to assist the teams with the most updated knowledge in the industry.
  • Works with subcontractors to develop and implement their Subcontractor Quality Control Plans.
  • Identifies project risks through Pepper's Constructability Review process and advise the project teams with options to eliminate or minimize those risks.
  • Identify areas for quality improvement, and work with Director of Quality and others to develop and implement solutions.
  • Participates in education and growth opportunities to remain relevant and aware of current trends affecting construction and quality.
  • Lead project Quality pre-installation meetings.
  • Participates in development and evaluation of project mock-ups.
  • Reviews work in the field, photographing, and discussing work in place with the project team.
  • Writes reports for each project, giving directions and suggestions to correct work-in-place.
  • Attend industry events in Chicagoland and out of town events two or three times a year.
  • Reviews 30-50 projects a year with average size of $10 million.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, Architecture or related field.
  • 5 years in a Construction Management, Design, Construction Technology, or Construction Testing.
  • Strong background and understanding of Construction Documents and Submittals.
  • Experience with ASTM standards and knowledge of construction testing procedures.
  • Experience with building codes a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of all construction related trades, especially building envelope, life safety, and flooring. MEP+FP knowledge a plus.
  • Able to travel through out the Chicagoland area.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a strong curiosity for how things go together.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to visit and work within an active multi-level construction site, including the use ladders.
  • Work schedule is typically between 7am - 4pm
