Summary
This position requires the individual to perform patient care and transportation duties up to the level authorized by the EMT-P certification in the State of North Carolina.
In concert with state certification and local medical control, the incumbent will contribute to a busy metropolitan advanced life support ambulance service providing emergency, non-emergency, convalescent, and long-distance service.
The individual is required to obtain and accurately record all available billing information, including signatures, and to thoroughly and accurately document physical findings and treatment rendered on a patient care record.
Work load for the position is considered demanding and the service sets specific performance requirements which must be met.
The position may work under the supervision of a Shift Supervisor and a training officer. Will perform rescue duties with an assigned crew or individually as needed.
Experience with an advanced life support service is desired. At least one year of field EMS / Rescue or related work experience preferred.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as sponsored by American Heart Association. Certification in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within (6) months after date of hire.
Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within (6) months after date of hire. Completion of NIMS 100, 200, & 700 required.
All certifications must be maintained continuously while employed. Valid NC drivers license required. Driving record check with law enforcement agency.
Must have three (3) years licensed driving experience. Thorough working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous material incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used.
Thorough working knowledge of locations in Cumberland County and the cities and locations contained therein, especially major streets and landmarks, and of rest homes, convalescence care centers, and nursing homes.
This knowledge being obtained within six months of employment. Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established rules, procedures, and protocols.
Ability to deal with patients, their families and others in a courteous, compassionate, professional manner under the most adverse circumstances, and an ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and other emergency and health care personnel.
Ability to drive all types of ambulance vehicles and a thorough knowledge of safe driving procedures used in the response of emergency vehicles.
Ability to lift and move a minimum of one hundred pounds (100 lbs.) on a regular basis with the added strength to lift upwards of 150 lbs.
When the situation requires, includes moving a patient from a bed to the floor, chair to the floor, or from a stretcher to a bed.
Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.
Hearing, speaking and visual acuity are required. Must possess the ability to operate an emergency vehicle emergency and non-emergency traffic.
Must possess the ability to move around numerous physical locations, some within confined areas. Must possess the ability to lift heavy objects, up to 150 pounds, with assistance and to assume awkward positions in emergency situations.
