The Broad Institute is an amazing place - we exist to apply our deep knowledge of human genetics to empower a revolution in biomedicine and accelerate the pace at which the world conquers disease.

The Broad Institute’s Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) and its team of professional drug hunters partner with faculty at MIT, Harvard, and the Harvard teaching hospitals to translate emerging biological insights into novel therapeutic strategies.

We couple novel technologies and approaches to industry-standard drug discovery rigor to tackle some of the most challenging targets across a wide range of disease areas (including oncology, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, psychiatric disease, infectious disease and rare disease).

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and passionate bench-based research associate to support several grant-funded early drug discovery projects in medicinal chemistry.

We will provide cutting-edge medicinal chemistry professional training to support the candidate in driving therapeutic discovery at the bench through the synthesis and isolation of novel therapeutic targets.

The successful candidate will have solid experience with modern synthetic, purification techniques and characterization of small molecules.

Experience in medicinal chemistry is advantageous.

The position is a 12-month contract opportunity.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Independently synthesize, isolate, and purify novel small molecules to advance ongoing projects.

Support the development of appropriate synthetic routes to deliver compounds to allow for the understanding of structure activity relationships (SAR) across different scaffolds.

Documenting work in electronic notebooks in a timely fashion

Managing, analyzing, and effectively presenting results to multi-disciplinary project teams

Working in partnership with team members and collaborators to deliver on project goals and milestones.

QUALIFICATIONS

B.S. in Chemistry, or a closely related field with 4+ years Organic chemistry / Medicinal chemistry research experience or M.

S. in Organic Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field with 2+ years research experience in an academic or industrial setting.

Record of successful delivery on new synthetic route and the application of those to the rapid delivery of synthetic intermediates and novel target small molecules

Experience with modern normal phase, reverse phase, and HPLC purification techniques, as well as analyzing LCMS and NMR spectra to support compound characterization and registration.

Proven track record of successful completion of compound synthesis including independently troubleshooting problematic routes, and delivery of required compounds in suitable yield and purity.

A record of successful communication and interaction with project team members, external customers, or vendors is advantageous

The successful candidate will be a results-focused, team-oriented scientist able to excel in a fast-track environment across multiple projects.

They must be accountable, self-motivated, detail-oriented and exhibit problem solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be a clear and effective communicator, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with team members.
