PLUMBER (2 POSITIONS) Plumbing Shop

Salary Range : $6,151 - $7,942 / Monthly

Work Schedule : Full-Time, Monday Friday, 7 : 00 . to 3 : 30 . and 5 : 00 . - 1 : 30 .; temporary position, ends on or before one year from the date of hire;

non-exempt classification.

Essential Functions : Under general supervision of the Supervising Plumber, the incumbent is responsible for the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures of water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler / prevention, and refrigeration-water supply plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems.

• Incumbent typically maintains, troubleshoots and tests plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices; assembles, installs and repairs pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures;
• cuts, threads and brazes pipes; assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of a variety of metals an materials;
• manages lab utilities; advise on the selection, ordering and storage of plumbing equipment and supplies; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations;
• participates in the maintenance and operations of a plumbing shop; maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties;

performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Required Qualifications & Experience : Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program.

Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a base knowledge of the operation of building automation systems;

and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes.

• The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver's License. The incumbent must have the ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems;
• perform applicable brazing work; make rough sketches of plumbing installations; read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications;

estimate materials and labor cost of standard plumbing maintenance and repair work. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and / or ability to work in a multicultural / multiethnic environment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University.

Desired Qualifications : A valid city of Los Angeles or county of Los Angeles Plumbing Journeyman License.
