About the Position of Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs

  • The Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and has primary responsibility for planning, coordinating, and implementing academic personnel matters;
  • coordinates the recruitment, appointment and mentoring of faculty : coordinates the retention, tenure, and promotion process for tenure-track faculty;

interprets the faculty and the Academic Student Employee (ASE) collective bargaining agreements and advises the Provost and President on faculty and ASE labor relations matters.

The Associate Vice President provides training to faculty, staff, chairs, and deans on faculty personnel matters : facilitates informal resolution of faculty complaints : processes faculty formal grievances and disciplinary actions : provides administrative support to the University Personnel Planning and Review Committee, and oversees the administration of the visa process for faculty and visiting scholars.

  • The successful candidate also supports the orientation of new faculty to campus and university life; manages the implementation of appointment and compensation changes for faculty and ASEs;
  • coordinates the scheduling of sabbaticals and other leaves; maintains faculty database records; serves as the University contact with Emeritus faculty;
  • directs the revisions and updating of personnel and search and screen manuals; serves as liaison on faculty personnel matters to the Chancellor's Office and other CSU campuses;

works closely with the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Office of Equity and Compliance on faculty personnel matters.

The Associate Vice President provides leadership in helping the University achieve its goals in equity and diversity and an inclusive work environment;

and assumes other duties as assigned by the Provost.

Qualifications

Required qualifications :

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution
  • Credentials and experience for a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor
  • Demonstrated competency in university teaching and a record of scholarly and professional accomplishment
  • Record of increasingly responsible administrative or faculty governance experience in a college or university
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience in categories including, but not limited to, service as a department chair, director, associate dean, dean, or other leadership administrative role.
  • Ability to develop, interpret, implement, and articulate complex personnel policies
  • Ability to foster a positive climate consonant with the university's efforts to promote cultural diversity and educational equity
  • Ability to write well and speak effectively in small and large group settings

Preferred qualifications :

  • Demonstrated experience and success in conflict resolution, consultative decision-making, teamwork, and interpretation / implementation of collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience mentoring faculty
  • Ability to facilitate chairs’ professional growth and leadership

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE : $190,000 to $205,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
