The Surgical Acute Care unit is a medical surgical unit with a focus on postoperative care. Scope of service includes continuous cardiac monitoring, continuous oxygen saturations, wound, and drain management .
Patients are admitted following surgical procedures via intra-hospital transfer from IMC, ICU, PACU, and as direct admissions through Express Care / Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU).
We coordinate independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective participative member of multidisciplinary patient care service team.

Patient population :
The Surgical Acute Care unit serves as the primary postoperative designation for the following specialty surgical services, including but not limiting to Surgical Oncology, Gynecology Neoplasia, Urology, Acute Care Emergency Surgery, Otolaryngology, Oral Maxillary Facial surgeries, and General Surgery which includes the bariatric surgery patients.

The Surgical Acute Care unit is a 24 bed post-surgical unit designated for the care and management of patients from various surgical services.
Scope of service includes but is not limited to :
- continuous cardiac monitoring
- continuous oxygen saturations
- drain management.
Patients are admitted following surgical procedures via intra-hospital transfer from :
- PACU
- Direct admissions through Express Care / Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU).

Qualifications
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
BSN preferred. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
- One year nursing experience. Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
- Member of a professional organization.
- Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
