The Director of Business Development will serve as a key driver for Amyris's business growth, accountable for identifying market opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and contributing to our aggressive growth targets across industries including personal care, food & beverage, fragrance & flavor, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and specialty chemicals.

This role will require close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver science-based, sustainable solutions that support revenue goals and market expansion.

The Director will leverage their expertise in business strategy, customer relationship management, and negotiation to build strong partnerships and execute development projects aligned with our mission to innovate clean chemistry solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve profitable growth by identifying key market targets and generating sales.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy focused on sustainable growth and grounded in technical feasibility.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Build compelling and achievable business cases to support development projects in collaboration with customers.
  • Consistently achieve and surpass established growth targets.
  • Conduct in-depth industry research leveraging internal and outside resources to prioritize market applications and opportunities.
  • Identify and understand unmet needs of prospective partners and target industries that can be addressed through Amyris's unique capabilities.
  • Lead collaborative meetings with key stakeholders to align goals and initiatives for business-to-business funded collaborations and external partnership.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts, including supply and collaboration agreements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in business development or sales, preferably within the biotechnology or specialty chemicals sectors.
  • Educational background in engineering, science or business (MBA preferred).
  • Experience in managing B2B sales or marketing teams.
  • Ability to travel 30-50% of time, depending on base location.

Amyris is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $160,500 to $260,000 per year, for candidates located nationally (outside of the SF Bay Area).

For candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the salary range is $191,000 to $289,000 per year, depending on experience.

Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate's skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
