Job Summary :
The Outpatient Services Asthma Medical Director is responsible for the leadership and direction of an interdisciplinary team in the provision of high-quality clinical care to our patients with asthma and other pulmonary conditions.
The Medical Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of continuous quality improvement, integration of patient-centered medical home practices, and application of evidence-based clinical practices around asthma and chronic lung disease.
Essential Outpatient Asthma Medical Director Duties :
- Utilizes knowledge, skills, and expertise in pediatrics to implement policies and procedures for evidence-based clinical practices in the treatment and care of patients with asthma and other pulmonary conditions.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership and clinic team on the systematic development of data metrics, compliance expectations, and ensure successful accomplishment of outpatient clinic performance objectives around asthma metrics.
- Ability to lead provider team members through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support via the identification and development of training related to clinical services, documentation, coding, and other related clinic operational matters.
- Supervises outpatient pulmonary nurse practitioners providing care to ensure that they are demonstrating advanced nursing clinical judgment and competence consistent with evidence-based practice in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of identified patients.
Monitors clinical outcomes to improve the quality of care for patients. Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed.
- Functions as a role model and leader by demonstrating professional oral and written communication, patient-focused approach to care, and effective collaboration with other departments, leaders, and team members.
- Participates as a member of related professional organizations.
- Collaborates with educational leaders to ensure a good education experience for all levels of learners, including medical students and pediatric residents.
Clinical :
- Provide direct patient care (in-person and telehealth) as part of the pediatric pulmonary care team under the clinical supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.
- 24 hours of direct patient care time per week (6 clinic sessions / week).
Additional Functions as Needed :
- Provides services related to health maintenance and promotion.
- Orders and conducts timely follow-up on laboratory and radiologic tests.
- Performs other therapeutic or corrective measures as indicated.
- Prescribes medications as appropriate.
- Consults and / or refers patients to licensed physicians or other health care providers as indicated.
- Reviews laboratory results, consultant examinations, and emergency room dispositions and follow up on those requiring intervention.
- Appropriately documents all findings concisely and completely utilizing the electronic medical records system, ensuring all entries are dated and signed within 48 hours of the patient visit.
- Stays current with evidence-based practice and standards of practice.
- Assists in the education of patients, nurses, and other clinical team members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we need from you :
Education : MD
License : Unrestricted medical Illinois license
Experience : Post-residency
Language : Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
Specialized Knowledge and Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge and expertise in pediatrics.
Active membership in appropriate professional organizations. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
CPR required : Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
