Patient Access Representative

The Wake County Health Clinics Division is seeking a bilingual Patient Access Representative with experience in electronic medical records, billing, and a team player attitude to join our team of Patient Access Representatives serving the community! The health clinics serve targeted and categorical populations in the following areas : Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Child Health, Prenatal, Immunization and Refugee Health, Dental and Women's Health. The services are offered to uninsured, underinsured, and Medicaid-covered individuals. Patients are offered fee adjustments on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income. Laboratory and Pharmacy are considered support services for both the Health Clinics and Public Health Divisions. Apply today and help serve the community we love and call home! The Patient Access Representative will :

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, setting a welcoming and professional tone for clinic operations
  • Register clients using multiple systems including Athena, NC Immunization Registry, and the Medicaid system
  • Perform front desk reception duties such as greeting patients, answering inquiries, and directing individuals to appropriate services
  • Ensure accurate and timely patient triage to the correct clinic area or provider
  • Deliver high-quality customer service to both Wake County citizens and internal staff
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other administrative staff to support seamless clinic operations
  • Assist with billing processes and maintain accurate electronic medical records
  • Uphold confidentiality and compliance standards in all patient interactions and data handling
  • Work Schedule note : Monday-Friday 8 : 15am-5 : 15pm with an expectation to work one even clinic per week until 7 : 15pm to make 40 hours

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

  • Spanish speaking skills (written and oral) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of medical and business terminology
  • Previous medical office experience
  • Previous experience working with electronic medical records
  • Ability to maintain effective and open communication with all team members in the clinic
  • Knowledge of the medical billing process, including insurance and self-pay clients
  • Ability to access and navigate in NC Tracks, GE Centricity, EPIC and NCIR
  • Ability to utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet business needs
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with co-workers and clients by listening, understanding and responding to identified needs
  • Knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures for day-to day management of the financial aspects of the clinic
  • Ability to be relied upon to ensure that projects within the area of responsibility are completed in a timely manner
