The basics of this position :

This position will be located at the Forest Park Campus

The goal of the Health Sciences Retention Coach is to develop and implement successful retention strategies for health science students using a systemic approach focusing on social and academic barriers of the student, incorporating various systems within the STLCC network as well as the community.

Creating and implementing a culture that focuses on equity, diversity and inclusion is an integral part of achieving a quality health science program that will have a positive impact on the community in which those graduates will serve.

Health Science Retention Coaches not only support and advocate for students but identify issues that may complicate learning by collecting data that can be analyzed for possible barriers that may affect student retention.

Then analyzed data can be used to recommend strategies to minimize barriers.

What you'll do :

Manage and monitor student progress on a continuous basis to be proactive with intervention strategies regarding student success within the program.

Meet with students individually / groupsto assist with learning issues, financial barriers,and variouslife obstacles that may hinder the progress of the student within the Health Sciences Division.

The Health Sciences Retention Coach willfosterstudent success,focusing ondeveloping student skillsinorganization,timemanagement,developingstudy plans,test preparation,focusing on specific studentlearning stylesas well asassisting withcampus and communityreferrals to various resources that may be needed.

Assist students with resources that foster the development of critical thinking skills, problem solving, learning strategies, and communication skills to improve success in the classroom / clinical setting.

Identify policies, processes, procedures, that create barriers to student success and work with faculty, staff, and health science program student organizations / committees to address and resolve such barriers collectively.

Work collaboratively with key areas to support persistence, and graduation initiatives.

Health Sciences Retention Coaches also participate in the NUR / PTA / OTA Readmission. The retention coaches use evidence-based research and data to inform, develop, guide,and assess interventions and strategies used to support district wideretention and student success.

Work collaboratively with key departments within the college to supportperseveranceand retention leading to successful graduation rates in the health science programs.

Attend Professional Development sessions and read education / discipline journals to stay informed on current trends in the field of Education and Health Science program retention.

Collect and analyze data to identify barriers and develop strategies to increase student success.

Education, experience, and other requirements :

Masters Degree or equivalent and over three (3) years of relevant full-time experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field.

Experience working with health care students in an academic setting is a plus.
