Position Summary

The Sr. Automation / Controls Engineer has a leadership role providing solutions to complex problems, machine upgrades, creates machine specs, and outsources machine builds.

A key player to support business unit needs with respect to data collection, scrap and MUV reduction, OEE and yield improvements.

Responsibilities :

• Experience with high volume fully automated production machines.
• Hands-on experience with machine design, machine fixture design, CAM driven machines, pneumatic actuators, servos, stepper motors, EFD dispensing valves, vision systems, sensors, sonic welding, pick-and-place mechanisms, pad printing, electrical test instruments, air-leak testers.
• Extensive experience with PLC (preferably Allen Bradley) control, HMI, I / Os.
• Experience with electrical hardware, schematics, and wiring.
• Networking and automatic data acquisition.
• Determine machine requirements, evaluate needs, and translate them into feasible and economical equipment solutions.
• Capable of performing reverse engineering, measuring and spec out tooling, and creating 3D models and 2D drawings. Must be proficient in SolidWorks.
• Provide knowledge on capabilities of key automation suppliers and providers of automation design and equipment manufacturing.
• Experience with lean manufacturing (yield improvements, machine uptime improvements, MUV / scrap reduction, changeover time reduction).
• Experience with process validation support IQ / OQ / PQ.
• Six-Sigma Methodology (DOE, Process Capability, Gage R&R, etc.).
• Diagnose and provide feedback for product nonconformance, CAPAs, and customer complaints.
• Direct experience required in formulating detailed project plans and managing activities / tasks and tracking progress electronically.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts, challenges, and project plans to all levels of the organization.

Knowledge & Skills :

• Extensive experience using project and program planning tools and software packages to create, manage, and track project results.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing all aspects of programs, including communicating with stakeholders and directing matrixed teams and resources.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate program plans, proposals, and results.

Travel Requirements :

Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment :

Work is performed in a clean room environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time;

depending on the machine they are operating. The operator is required to use a computer or touch screen to accept work order data.

Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience :

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• 7+ years of experience in a related field.
• This is largely a sedentary role.
• This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment with occasional work performed in a clean room environment.
• Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 pounds.
• Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
