This position is responsible for overseeing and participating in fabricating traffic control signs through the use of sign making computerized programs and equipment.
Main tasks include sending digital files to vinyl cutting plotters, weeding and applying vinyl material on aluminum blanks, and using different sized squeegee roll applicators.
Assignments are received from the Sign & Markings Superintendent, other sections within the division through our fast trac WO system and other Divisions within Broward County in the form of oral and / or written instructions, frequently accompanied by sketches or plans complying with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Standard Highways Signs (SHS) and / or standards set by Broward County.
General Description
Oversees the operation of the sign shop. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) years in production and installation of signs including the use of computerized sign making equipment or closely related experience including one (1) year lead work / supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
None.
Preferences
- Associate's degree or higher.
- Technical School Certificate in related field.
- Any 3M or Avery Dennison Certification.
- At least three (3) years' experience in vinyl sign design and / or fabrication.
- At least three (3) years' experience in graphic design and / or vector software (i.e. CorelDraw, Illustrator, AutoCad).
- At least two (2) years' experience working with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and / or Standard Highway Signs (SHS).
- At least two (2) years of experience using work-order tracking software.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Helps the crews fabricate and design signs to complete the large demand of signs that are required to supply the installation crew the necessary signs that are required to maintain the safety of the general public of Broward County.
Multitasks while handling the management and reporting responsibilities; maintains reports and logs for monthly, quarterly and yearly reports;
performs cost estimating and orders supplies and materials.
Manages and delegates the work coming into the shop; designs layout and fabrication of signs; maintains equipment and tools in shop.
Supervises employees and performs administrative tasks and conducts meetings.
Performs related work as assigned.
