Under the direction of the Director of Counseling and Wellness, the Mental Health Counselor provides counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, and referral services for college students, staff, and faculty.

The Mental Health Counselor participates in activities that address students' needs; consults with faculty and staff regarding students' concerns;

and provides counseling services and wellness programs that promote a positive impact on student success. The primary goals of the Mental Health Counselor are to contribute and commit to providing a supportive campus environment, to promote psychological health and well-being for all students, staff, and faculty, and to empower students, staff, and faculty to achieve academic and professional success.

Essential Duties

  • Provides counseling for students, staff, and faculty by facilitating personal counseling to help them identify and understand personal issues that are affecting their quality of life, education, career, and / or work performance.
  • Refers and connects students, staff, and faculty who have needs outside of the Counseling and Wellness Center's scope of practice to college and outside community agencies.
  • Develops and maintains a networking relationship with community referral resources.
  • Responds to crisis situations and to college critical incidents requiring counseling services (e.g., classroom / group debriefing, supportive counseling).
  • Provides case management for students with special life challenges.
  • Assists with programming and educational opportunities in such areas as unplanned pregnancy education, drug / alcohol education, various mental health programs such as suicide prevention, test anxiety, support for students with Asperger's / autism.
  • Collaborates with various campus departments such as Student Life, Student Conduct, and Enrollment Support to support and promote student success.
  • Engages in continual professional development activities.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the Simple Practice EMR system.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Provides counseling services in-person and via Telehealth.
  • Travels to Washington Co. campus at least one day per week to perform counseling. Flexibility to pivot back to main campus if needed.

Salary $51,193 annually

  • Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to
  • campus academic and social programs.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and / or social programs.
  • Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations.
  • Ability to compile information into report form.

Qualifications

Master's Degree in Counseling or related field; licensed by the State of Arkansas to practice counseling or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience consulting / liaising with campus and / or community partners serving LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Experience counseling LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
