What you will be supporting : The CDC Vaccination Data and Visualization Application (VaxVizApp) will inform routine work, outbreak response, and outbreak / pandemic preparedness, and serve the needs of ISD, NCIRD / CDC, awardees, and non-awardee partners including other CDC programs / units, federal partners, and funded partners.

The application will be a significant advancement in addressing current data challenges related to vaccination, supporting public health efforts, and ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes and equity.

What are we looking for? Web Application Developer II to support development of a internal facing public health web portal for a critical project with the CDC.

The ideal candidate will have experience in web application development, with a strong focus on creating secure, scalable, and user-friendly solutions.

This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful design, development, and deployment of the web-based application.

Fun stuff you will do on the job :

  • Design, develop, and maintain a robust web-based application for tracking public health data, ensuring it meets both functional and performance requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the development lifecycle, including architecture design, coding standards, and best practices.
  • Support the lead developer to integrate the application with existing systems and databases, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with UX / UI designers to create an intuitive and responsive user interface that enhances the user experience.
  • Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with CDC standards and regulations.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure the application is reliable, performs well, and is free of defects. Address and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the application, including technical specifications, user guides, and deployment procedures.
  • Work closely with project managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, provide updates, and ensure the project stays on track. This is you :
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in web application development, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within scope.
  • Proficiency in modern web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and popular frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Strong experience with server-side technologies and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, .NET, Java).
  • Knowledge of database systems and SQL.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud platforms and services.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • At least seven years’ leading IT development or analytical projects or with collaborating with technical teams.
  • Must be well-organized, proactive, and works well in a team-setting.
  • Skilled in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborators.
  • Skilled in translating public health information, data, and concepts to functional technical requirements. You will wow us even more if you have these skills :
  • Public health project experience Education & Training :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.

Currently due to the remote working status of the federal government, most DRT employees are teleworking from home and leveraging video conferencing along with other virtual productivity tools.

Under normal circumstances, most of our positions are required to report onsite. However, DRT has not yet determined when employees will be required to return to their onsite workspaces.

Please be aware that at the time a date is determined to return to the worksite, the requirement of this position may be to report in person to the work location.
