Summary :
Looking for a Physical Education, Health and Wellness Educator to organize games and challenges that promote physical activity, lifelong wellness and social-emotional skills in the context of a three-week summer program for elementary students in Newton Public Schools.
The program is 21 days in July / August (20 days with students and 1 set up day) and is paid 4 hours per day at the teacher summer rate.
Dates : 7 / 8 / 24-8 / 8 / 24 (Monday-Thursday)
Times : 11 : 30-3 : 30 (students attend 8 : 30-3 : 00)
Qualifications :
Required Qualifications :
- BA / M.Ed. in Physical Education
- Experience teaching children and adolescents K-8 in physical education, health and wellness
- Strong speaking and listening skills
- Ability to teach and demonstrate activities, adapt and modify lessons and activities to fit the needs of all students including English learners and students with disabilities.
Desired Qualifications :
Preference will be given to current Newton Public Schools PEHW teachers
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To) :
- Works fully in-person
- Follows health and safety protocols related to COVID-19
- Create games and activities that focus on physical activity, motor skills and wellness
- Create a responsive, fun and safe environment for all campers
- Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
- Responsible for implementing other job-related duties as needed
Work Environment & Physical Requirements :
- Ability to walk, talk, hear, sit, and stand regularly and for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, crouch and kneel
- Ability to lift and / or move objects weighing up to 15 pounds
- Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
- The teacher is occasionally required to perform heavy lifting of mats and various equipment pieces
