Job Description

WSP USA is seeking a Bridge Inspection- Structural Engineer to join our dynamic Structures Bridge Design / Inspection Group in New England which includes offices in Boston & Worcester, MA and Providence, RI.

Provides technical assistance and guidance for inspections, rehabilitation, and load rating of existing bridges, culverts, and structures as well as improvement and / or construction of new structures.

Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements.

Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications.

Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Work with our Bridge / Highway Design Team on a variety of project development and design tasks
  • Assist in the preparation of Bridge Load Ratings
  • Work as a Team Member on Bridge Inspections
  • Assist with the development of plans / sketches using AutoCAD
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of bridge and transportation Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation. Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in bridge inspection or design or other bridge related work.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Undergraduate program. OR Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program.
  • Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred.
  • A member of and / or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
