Overview of Event Coordinator
Our White Lodging School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Purdue University Northwest is seeking an Event Coordinator to work closely with our Gallery Cafe team on our beautiful Westville, IN campus.
Reporting to our Chef, this position will play a key role in providing our guests with an excellent banquet experience while maintaining high customer service standards throughout the operation.
Our Westville campus is only 15 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park and a short train ride into Chicago. You can have all the perks of a world-class city or enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Michigan.
PNW Title : Banquet Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities of Event Coordinator
- Meet with customers and / or supporting PNW departments to determine event objectives and requirements.
- Coordinate facilities and vendors.
- Assist the Chef with creating and managing budgets, developing and executing food service marketing plans, and maintain billing and invoicing.
- Meet with clients, plan menus, organize venues and equipment, and collaborate with supporting departments.
- Provide guests with an excellent banquet experience and maintain high customer service standards throughout the operation.
- Execute all service details of event.
- Serve as main client contact on-site during events.
- Coordinate food and event catering services, in our caf and banquet facilities within budget and on time, with healthy cost margins.
- Improve catering and cafe services.
- Create and implement systems such as small wares inventory, event checklist, etc.
- Open and close Gallery Cafe and registers and file appropriate paperwork
- Fill in as line staff based off the needs of operation
- May also need to travel to our Hammond, IN Campus for events as needed
Experience of Event Coordinator
1-2 years event or banquet experience in a restaurant or food and beverage department in a hotel, resort, or similar industry.

Education of Event Coordinator
High school diploma / GED
Core Competencies of Event Coordinator
- Must be able to work without close supervision
- Excellent customer service and communication skills to ensure guests needs are me
- Knowledge of concepts of marketing special events
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Ability to perform all banquet positions
- Ability to supervise
- Must be able to use of Point Of Sale Computer, sanitizing and disinfecting products, kitchen equipment (fryers, flat-top, grill, dish machine, toaster, soup warmers, blenders, pizza ovens, steam tables), and kitchen knives to cut (sandwiches, pizza, etc.).
- Must be able to lift and carry Lift and carry 25 to 50lbs frequently and up to 60lbs occasionally
- Must have Food Safety certificate and Alcohol Certificate or complete training during initial 90 days
