Medication Specialists provide front line support for residents enrolled in addiction treatment, providing direct care services to support residents on the path to recovery.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities :
- Monitor staff to ensure the 6 rights of medication management is followed
- Oversee the storage of medication in the program and ensure compliance with regulatory expectations
- Ensure a full chain of custody for all medications is recorded
- Identify and report medication events to the Program Director or designee
- Ensure medications are disposed of properly
- Assist Recovery Specialists with medication observation
- Monitor the resident’s EHR to ensure medications have been entered with accuracy
- Processes resident admissions, transitions and discharges.
- Navigates residents’ electronic medical records as needed;
- Supervises the health and safety of residents in the program by completing trauma-informed checks in the frequency set by the agency’s policies and procedures;
- Observes residents taking medication to ensure the prescribed dose is ingested;
- Oversees and accompanies the residents to various program activities throughout the day;
- Promotes residents participation in program curriculum and recreational activities;
- Maintains appropriate professional boundaries with residents;
- Enforcing rules in a respectful manner;
- Maintains all required documentation including observation logs and resident belongings inventories;
- Transports residents to appointments or their next placement in the absence of a driver;
- Complies with all agency policies, procedures and state and federal regulations;
- Maintains resident confidentiality at all times;
This position provides support to the Recovery Specialists and other staff responsible for medication observation. The position provides guidance and direction to staff with the assistance of the Program Director or designee
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION :
- Required : High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification or the ability to complete on-site CPR certification training upon hire.
- Must attend BSAS training on Medication Specialist Role post hire
- Must demonstrate ability to relate to a substance abuse treatment population in a sensitive manner
- Must have an interest and willingness to work in a multicultural setting Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
- Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Manages difficult or emotional client situations; Responds promptly to client needs and maintains confidentiality.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license preferred.
- Knowledge of the substance use treatment continuum and community based resources preferred
- Experience working in a behavioral health setting preferred.
