Position Details

Summary

Ensure that every student with a disability receives an educational plan designed to help them achieve their maximum physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral capabilities.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid and current teaching certificate for the State of Michigan.
  • SA, SM, CI, EI, or SE Endorsement Required

Preferred Skills :

  • Skilled at designing learning environments that promote a students ability to achieve at their highest potential.
  • Experience using data to develop lesson plans and instructional groups.
  • Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and community. Outstanding computer skills, professional appearance, and regular attendance at school-sponsored events and activities.
  • Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with PBIS.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area of responsibility, and evaluates results continuously.
  • Plans and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet students individual needs, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.
  • Convenes and chairs Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. Develops and implements student IEP goals and instruction based on individual student needs.
  • Participates in the implementation of health care procedures in accordance with administrative operating procedures.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements student behavior support plans in accordance with District policy, administrative operating procedures, and state / federal rules and regulations.

Convenes a team to evaluate and develop a functional behavioral assessment as needed.

  • Works cooperatively and communicates with District and constituent district staff, students, and parents / guardians.
  • Maintains accurate records and appropriate reports.
  • Participates in district-level staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development / special programs, school improvement teams, and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
  • Regularly document student progress using assessment tools, monitoring through observations / evaluation, and / or collecting data.

Uses student progress data to improve instruction.

  • Develops a program that includes a variety of learning activities, small group, and individualized activities; collaborates with other related service providers regarding activities for assigned students.
  • Supervises and implements instruction for students in class; directs the activities of teacher assistants in all areas of instruction as well as other activities.
  • Establishes and maintains open communications with parents, staff, administration, and outside agencies.
  • Performs billing functions for Medicaid reimbursement where applicable.
  • Adheres to District health and safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Exhibits emotional stability, exercises good judgment, and makes decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines, with minimum supervision.
  • Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support students focus on learning
  • Teach District approved curriculum through both direct instruction and inquiry-based instruction
  • Participate collaboratively with peers and administrators in planning and evaluating the instructional program
  • Positively represent Morenci Area Schools in the community
  • Participate in continual professional growth opportunities that are aligned with district priorities
  • Articulate student learning objectives and reasons for importance, provide timely accurate feedback to students, and engage students in self-assessment
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse family and cultural backgrounds and interest in students
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises classroom, students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports or professional correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, administrators, and the general public

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference, fractions, percentages, rations, and practical applications.

Physical Demands

Frequently required to stand and talk or hear while sometimes walking and sitting. The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 40 pounds.

Frequent bending, stooping, or getting up and down from the floor is also required.
