MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a MITRE staff member with a passion for leading and managing staff to join the N262 MDA Sensors and C4ISR Department leadership team.
N262 provides technical support to MITRE’s MDA Program across the Ground Sensors, Battle Management, Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3), Space Systems, Cyber Security, and Advanced Development domains.
This Project Leader is responsible for leading multiple radar projects of approximately 20 STE within the MDA Sensors Directorate providing engineering support to a variety of MDA Ground Sensors, such as Homeland Defense Radar Guam, Long Range Discrimination Radar, AN / TPY-2 Development and Sustainment, Sensors Systems Engineering, Upgraded Early Warning Radar, COBRA DANE, and Radar Foreign Military Sales.
SN Project outcomes include radar capability acquisition, development, systems engineering, testing, fielding, cybersecurity, hardware and software engineering and integration, and radar obsolescence / sustainment engineering.
The SN Project Leader is required to work with MITRE and government leadership and technical staff to ensure a culture of excellent technical quality, teamwork, staff development, continuous learning, and innovation.
The SN Project Leader also manages the MDA Ground Sensors Laboratory (GSL) at MITRE Bedford and oversees the GSL Lab Director and GSL Lab Manager.
The SN Project Leader will ensure proper resource allocation for plan execution, track delivery, and take appropriate action when necessary to correct shortfalls or overruns, working in shared leadership with MITRE Resource Managers to match staff member talents to project needs.
The job is a Principal Step, Huntsville, AL-based position; this work location is required to effectively foster staff and government relationships and shape the direct work program.
Roles & Responsibilities :
- Act as MITRE Project Leader to lead, plan, execute, and deliver MITRE Ground Sensor Project outcomes.
- Build and maintain a team of MITRE engineers focused on radar, systems engineering, software development, hardware development, integration and testing of capabilities, and cybersecurity for the Sensors program office
- Lead a dynamic team that defines sensor capabilities, requirements and analyzes ground sensors, interoperability with command-and-control systems against requirements
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key government leaders within the Sensors program office
- Supervise the MDA Ground Sensors Lab including allocating resources to the lab and overseeing the GSL Change Control Board activities as needed
- Collaborate with MITRE MDA division leadership, department leadership, and government sponsors to perform work shaping of MITRE support to the Sensors program offices
- Work with department chief engineer to ensure technical quality of delivered work products to Sensors program office
- Collaborate and Partner with other project leaders within and external to the MDA division to ensure the delivery of integrated solutions across the MITRE work program supporting MDA and adjacent sponsors
- Provide strategic and technical leadership as a trusted advisor to senior government leaders within the Ground Sensors program office
- Lead development of Sensors operational concept documents
- Identify operational or technical gaps in current systems and recommend mitigations for fielded or new systems in development
- Identify opportunities to apply emerging technology to radar and sensor technical domains
- Develop technical reports and presentations on analysis results, options, and recommendations
Basic Qualifications :
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s Engineering degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree;
or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
This position requires ability to obtain Top Secret / SCI clearance.
- 8+ years of experience in developing and evolving enterprise technical capabilities and defense programs through the practical application of systems architecting and / or systems engineering best practices
- MITRE task development and management experience, to include work shaping
- Superior sponsor engagement, written, and verbal communications skills in politically sensitive, high-risk customer context.
- 12 years experience in relevant domain (DoD architectures, systems engineering, digital modeling and simulations, radar systems, space-based systems, and / or command and control).
- Demonstrated experience developing, integrating, or operating DoD, DHS, or FAA systems in the areas of radar or ground based sensor systems
- Experience in systems engineering of complex defense systems
- Demonstrated ability to independently bring new, innovative solutions to sponsor challenges and strategically advocate for new approaches.
- Knowledge of advanced threats to space and missile defense systems and mitigation methods.
- This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in Missile Defense Agency systems and programs
- MS or higher degree in Physics, Engineering, or a technical degree
- Experience with all aspects of project management, such as work shaping, staff planning and selection, recruiting, budgeting, and reporting, managing geographically distributed groups
- 15 years’ experience in a relevant domain (DoD architectures, systems engineering, digital modeling & simulation, radar systems, space-based systems, and / or command and control)
- Experience applying System of Systems (SoS) systems engineering design principles to provide an integrated capability to the DoD warfighter
- Experience working across multiple DoD and USG agencies
- Experience with integration of multiple sensor types / phenomenology into an operational system for threat detection and tracking
- Current TS / SCI
