Description
The University of Rochester Medical Center () , Office of Equity and Inclusion () is seeking an Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion for Undergraduate Medical Education to provide leadership, coordination, consultation, assistance, strategic oversight, vision, and direction in support of the University of Rochester's Equity and Inclusion goals and efforts to build an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning and work environment for all members of its community.
This role will specifically focus on recruiting, supporting, and retaining historically underrepresented learners and nurturing a respectful learning and work environment for medical students .
Provides continued mentoring, peer support, and sponsorship to marginalized groups and educators looking to improve their cross-cultural teaching skill
Acts as a member and participant of the Chief Diversity Officer's leadership cabinet group and other key leadership groups to inspire, mentor, and educate various stakeholders about EDI initiatives and resolution to EDI issues
Collaborates with leaders and Diversity Councils / Committees to advance the university's commitment to recruitment, retention, and advancement of an equitable, inclusive, and diverse academic workforce
Supports curricular updates that expand our learners' exposure to patients from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and prepare students to provide affirming, effective care for marginalized groups
Provides consultation and support to continuously improve the clinical learning environment, with an emphasis on students from historically underrepresented backgrounds
Collaborates with the Sr. Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education to organize attendance of marginalized medical students at regional and national minority-focused meetings / recruitment events
Host a pre-application DEIJ Showcase for prospective medical students that centers SMD's DEIJ efforts
Participates on the Admissions Committee, which includes screening applicants, interviewing, and attending committee meetings.
Ensures all assigned committee work is conducted by appropriate OEI personnel
Attends and actively engage in at least two recruitment events per year, including necessary travel
The Associate Dean will hold a primary faculty appointment with the department and rank to be commensurate with area of expertise and experience.
The Associate Dean role will comprise at least 30% FTE, with the potential for additional effort depending on the individual candidate's circumstances.
The balance of effort will comprise other duties individually negotiated with the primary department.
Qualifications
Terminal Degree in Medicine, Research, or Higher Education
8 years of relevant experience that includes leadership and diversity, equity, and inclusion
Knowledge of trends and issues impacting diversity, equity, and inclusion for medical school students
Effective interpersonal skills, high level of emotional intelligence, and proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
Preferred
Knowledge of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other related regulations
Effective at managing complex and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries.
