Dean of Business and Professional Studies

This position requires the candidate to obtain the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances prior to their start date.
This position has been approved for a flexible work option arrangement. Flexible work options can be ended at any time by the College, Cabinet, and / or supervisors based on employee performance and / or as institutional needs change.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
The Dean of Business and Professional Studies provides leadership for a division that includes Accounting, Baking & Pastry Arts, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Education, Economics, Human Services, Management, Marketing, Municipal Police Academy, Office Management, Psychology, Public Safety Administration, and Tourism & Hospitality Management.
The Dean creates and maintains clear curricular paths to career and / or transfer, supporting program growth and the development of faculty and staff in meeting the College’s student success goals.
The Dean is an important liaison for the College with business and industry partners, transfer partners, K-12 educators, government officials, grant agencies, and private funders.
As a member of the VPAA and Provost’s leadership team, the dean acts to further the institution’s goals towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This position has college-wide responsibilities that require travel between campuses and to offsite locations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Work collaboratively across the institution to engage in data-informed planning and strategic management to champion student success, foster productive external relationships, and ensure that programs and services are sustainably resourced.
- Manage all facets of the daily operations for the Business and Professional Studies division and align financial and staffing resources to support Division needs.
- Provide leadership to division faculty in the development and continuous improvement of curricular offerings. Guide and actively participate in program, General Education core, and course assessment.
- Participate in college-wide and programmatic accreditation activities such as self-studies, onsite visits, outcome plans, and other relevant functions.
- In collaboration with Division administrators, recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, and support ongoing professional development of full-time and part-time faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Resolve student, faculty and staff concerns. Facilitate communication between and among concerned parties to resolve conflicts expeditiously.
- Partner with the Workforce and Economic Development division to build and expand workforce training programs that link credit and non-credit learning experiences.
- Collaborate on articulation and transfer agreements and K-12 partnerships.
- Ensure that courses are scheduled when and in the modality that students need to balance their work, family, personal, and academic demands.
- Provide executive leadership and direction to The Hospitality Institute team, which includes the director, administrators, faculty and staff of the various related academic programs.
- Work to connect regional employers to program advisory boards, to student experiential learning opportunities, and to other high-impact practices, such as authentic research, service learning, mentoring, and internships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master’s degree required in an area represented by the academic units in the division; doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years previous teaching experience at the collegiate level, preferably at a comprehensive community college.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive administrative / management experience required, and preferably at a community college.
- Excellent management, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Data management and analysis abilities with demonstrated abilities to apply quantitative and qualitative reasoning to assessment, planning, management, and communications tasks.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Word applications and other productivity, communication, and presentation tools.
- Experience in curriculum or program development.
- Knowledge of and experience with a range of instructional delivery modalities.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience in programmatic or regional accreditation preferred.
- Experience in grant and philanthropic acquisition, management, and reporting preferred.
