SUMMARY
The Deckhand ("Marinero") is responsible for loading cargo on and off the boats, act as lookout and perform maintenance work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor to our guests and coworkers.
- Repairs equipment as necessary with minimal downtime and inconvenience.
- Courteously and efficiently handles guest arrivals and departures.
- Performs any combination of following duties aboard the Bahia Sternwheelers, such as handles lines to moor vessel to docks, tie up vessel to another vessel, or possibly rig towing lines.
- Sweeps and washes decks.
- Stands steering watches or lookout watches while underway.
- Moves control or turns handwheels to raise or lower passenger landing ramps.
- Paints lifeboats, decks, and superstructure of the vessel.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the leadership team.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 3-12 months of relevant experience and / or training. If no educational background, at least 1 year.
- Previous similar position in a hotel, or similar business entity preferred.
- Availability to work on weekends and holidays is required.
- Ability to always maintain a friendly, professional, team-oriented, positive demeanor and diplomatic attitude, especially under stress or challenges.
- Ability to stand, kneel, squat for prolonged periods of time, up to and including, the entire shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Experience in dealing with the public is preferred, such as retail cashier, food industry service, guest service with public contacts, etc.
The following position will be filled in accordance with the process set forth in California Labor Code Section and San Diego Municipal Code et. seq.
The pay scale posted is the salary or hourly wage range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position during the first year of employment.
The posted range does NOT include potential additional types of compensation, such as gratuities, service charges, commissions, or bonuses.
Actual compensation offered may fluctuate based on qualifications and / or experience.
