RECREATION THERAPIST (CERT)

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE : The Recreation Therapist is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating age appropriate therapeutic recreation programs for behavioral health patients based on evidence-based practice.

Recreational Therapists provides group therapy, expressive therapies, recreation and psych education in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Recreational Therapist are also responsible for the supervision of Activity Aides, Music and other personnel. Maintains safety standards and QPI for the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Documents provision of services including assessments, Master Treatment Plans, and daily Progress Notes.
• Review and co-sign documents prepared by the Activity Specialists.
• Develops programs and facilitates Specialized Therapeutic Services for inpatient and outpatient patients who suffer from a wide range of mental health illnesses.
• Supervises Recreation Therapists, Music Therapists and Activity Specialists and Lifeguards as needed.
• Develops department Policies and Procedures as needed.
• Develops and monitors QPI of department on quarterly basis.
• Responsible for maintaining inventory, supply inventory and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
• Schedules use of all recreational facilities throughout the hospital.
• Assumes duties of
• Oversees and evaluates Internship program.
• Supervises Special Events provided by STS department.

Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES :

1.Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.

EDUCATION :

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS :

1. Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification through the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification required.

EXPERIENCE :

1. Must have a minimum of 1 year in experience in program development, implementation and evaluation of recreation / music therapy programs in a psychiatric or hospital setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

• Walking and standing for long periods of time.
• Required lifting items 25-50 pounds.
• Requires frequent pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, twisting, and bending.

• Requires working outside for periods of time.
