Data center engineering is the process of designing, building, and maintaining data centers, which are facilities used to house and manage critical IT infrastructure, applications, and data in our Richmond, VA site.

Data center engineers ensure the data center infrastructure's stability, reliability, and security. They are crucial in supporting the availability and performance of applications and services.

This involves the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical infrastructure of a data center, including electrical and mechanical systems.

Data Center Construction management is a very specific construction skillset that requires knowledge in the data center industry and specific critical infrastructure systems and design.

It is the requirement of the Data Center Construction manager to understand not only standard construction practices but also the highly complex and integrated nature of data center design.

A successful Data Center Construction manager will have experience and intimate knowledge of all the systems that are required to successfully deliver a world class data center that can serve the needs of the company and LinkedIn’s members.

This role will be based in Richmond,VA .This role, due to the business needs of the team, requires employees to be physically present in the specified office on a full-time basis.

This helps to ensure you are best equipped to be successful and have the experience you need to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.Key job responsibilities

  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment (Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear, Transformers, Power Feeders, Chillers, Plumbing, Fire Detection / Suppression, Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Handling / Conditioning Units, UPS, CRAH, CRAC).
  • Communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards.
  • Drive practical constructability standards in design documentation.
  • Perform constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization of existing data centers.
  • Act as the point of escalation for complex constructability issues.
  • Provide input into global standards and data center template designs.
  • Conduct negotiations with contractors / subcontractors and evaluate bids / proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Develop detailed project plans to meet the delivery timelines.
  • Review bid summaries, schedules and milestones, labor pricing, and perform subcontractor evaluations.
  • Financial analysis of construction cost at multiple milestones.
  • Collect, organize, apply and hand off lessons learned to design, pre-construction and construction teams to achieve continuous improvement across the entire program.
  • Up to 25% travel required.Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction), mission critical facilities or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience of end to end project delivery.
  • Organization and communications skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, Word and PowerPoint) skills + ability & willingness to learn and use an internal program management platform consistently to update project progress.
  • Knowledge of AIA standard documentation.
  • Problem-solving skills.Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction related discipline.
  • Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, and / or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to develop new concepts through exploration, design, testing and into deployment / mass production.
  • Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers / critical infrastructure or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants.
  • Experience of working with large data center providers in multiple regions.
  • Large infrastructure project experience.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Sustainable design experience.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Experience in controls and commissioning of large-scale projects.
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
  • Experience with methods of procedure (MOPs), change management (CMs) and facility operations.

The pay range for this role is $103,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.

This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and / or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
