Overview
Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs non-judgmental aspects of pharmacy practice; accurately and efficiently prepares and distributes medications and parenteral admixtures to inpatients.
Key Responsibilities :
- Accurately reads and interprets labels and fills first doses of medications.
- Independently uses inpatient pharmacy computer system to print labels, reports, fill lists, billing, etc.
- Fills 24-hour unit dose cart / Automated dispensing cabinets / or surgery trays.
- Extemporaneously packages bulk medications into unit dose packages, includes accurately calculating expiration dates as mandated by regulatory agencies.
- Packages bulk medications into unit dose packaging.
- Fills and checks floor stock requisitions.
- Prepares large and small volume parenteral products using aseptic technique to maintain sterility.
- Prepares select sterile products using USP 797 guidelines for appropriate risk level.
- Answers phone courteously, identifying department and stating name and uses appropriate judgment when answering and triaging phone calls.
- Prepares non-sterile compounding products.
- Accurately delivers medications to patient care areas, including the refilling of automated dispensing cabinets.
- Returns medication to stock.
- Accurately and efficiently checks assigned inventory stock locations for outdated medications each month.
- Performs medication area inspections monthly.
- Accurately and efficiently refills code blue emergency medication trays.
- Accurately and efficiently restocks unit dose cart or surgery supply cart stock to par levels.
- Receives orders from patient care areas and routes / responds appropriately.
Qualifications
Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred. Ability to obtain pharmacy tech registration through Kansas State Board of Pharmacy required.
Experience Required
One-year Pharmacy Tech experience, preferably in a hospital environment.
