- GENERAL SUMMARY
- The Mental Health Community Engagement Program Manager is responsible for building and maintaining relationships across a diverse group of community stakeholders to enhance awareness of the continuum of mental health services provided at both CHKDHS and within the community.
The incumbent will facilitate solutions with community partners to optimize access to mental health care, improve outcomes, and serve as a fundraising professional by identifying, qualifying and cultivating prospective donors, and successfully securing major gifts to the organization.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering community relationships, have a strong background in developing strategies around community partnerships, and advocacy.
Reports to department leadership.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Engagement
- Works collaboratively to engage with the community and across provider networks to build relationships and effective communication channels.
This position is expected to be present and visible in the community and requires some work outside of traditional office hours on evenings and weekends.
Establishes and maintains channels of communication to build understanding, appreciation, and progress of a mental health community system of care.
Facilitates the comprehensive outreach strategy to increase collaboration, access to care, and improve outcomes.
- Identifies areas for improved collaboration, service gaps, and referral channels. Develops and implements strategies and tactics to advance access across the mental health continuum of care at both CHKD and within the community.
- Participates in community awareness and outreach activities including, but not limited to, Recovery Month, Overdose Awareness Day, Mental Health Awareness Month, Prevention Week, and Children’s Mental Health Matters Week.
- Assists in planning and attending mental health related agency, community meetings, and events to bridge gaps in care and develop access solutions.
- Develops relationships with government agencies to create an open channel of information sharing, resources, and ongoing advocacy.
- Utilizes relationships to develop creative solutions to advance access and provide opportunities for stakeholders to problem-solve shared concerns.
- Creates strategic partnerships by listening, seeking information, engaging in activities to understand community aspirations, and support communities' efforts to address the most critical mental health needs within our communities.
- Responds to requests from elected and appointed officials, healthcare and social support professional associations, and healthcare industry associations such as VHHA, to facilitate conversations with communities to address mental health related concerns and participate in community activities.
- Assess on an ongoing basis the communication tools needed to reduce the stigma of mental health and promote community solution to address wellness in the community.
- Philanthropy
- Manages and grows a diverse portfolio of individuals with the capacity to make commitments to achieve CHKD’s philanthropic priorities.
- Identifies new major gift donors through qualification activity geared towards assessing capacity and philanthropic inclination.
- Builds and maintains meaningful relationships with each prospect in portfolio, strengthening their ties to CHKD with the goal of cultivating ongoing support and engagement.
- Develops and implements strategies for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of each prospect in portfolio to include :
- A minimum of 120 personal visits or significant personal contacts each year.
- Development of funding proposals which match donor interests to CHKD’s priorities.
- Solicitation of an annual fund gift for each prospect, either through a personal visit or solicitation by a volunteer.
- Completion of more than 12 major gift solicitations each year and closure of at least 6 major gifts, with more precise goals formulated based on plans with your portfolio.

- LCSW or related licensing designation.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field (Public Health, Psychology, Health Communications, Human Services) required.
- 5+ years of progressive experience as a health care professional in a mental health related field required.
- Experience working with children and their families with an emphasis on evidenced based prevention, early intervention services, and trauma informed care required.
- Experience with project and grants management, professional group facilitation, public speaking, and report writing required.
- Previous experience in public education campaigns and related media / marketing activities required.
- Experience and cultural competence to understand, communicate and work effectively and respectfully across all constituents that represent diversity of culture, such as demographics, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and language required.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree in related field.
- Relationship-building and stewardship skills with the ability to engage and inspire donors preferred.
- Fundraising, with a focus on major gifts within the nonprofit sector preferred.
- Experience with donor databases preferred.
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with youth / family mental health systems of care, services, and agencies within the region.
- Familiarity with philanthropy and the development and execution of comprehensive fundraising plans to secure current and future gifts.
- Strong proficiency and technical aptitude in MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to motivate and lead professional, paraprofessional, and stakeholder groups.
- Ability to resolve complex issues and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to interact in a hybrid / virtual environment.
- Ability to travel to various locations (meetings, events etc.).
- Increased Security Clearance may be required : FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
