- BASIC FUNCTION : Under the direction of the Director-Special Education and with supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist, assist and provide appropriate speech therapy services and reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students with speech and language disorders;
- assist a Speech and Language Pathologist in implementing IEP goals and objectives for assigned students; prepare and maintain related documents, records and reports;
perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel.KNOWLEDGE OF : General practices, terminology and techniques involved in assisting with providing speech and language therapy to individual students with speech-language disorders.
General remediation strategies involved in the enhancement of student speech, language and articulation skills. Applicable Education laws, codes, rules and regulations.
Child guidance principles and practices related to children with special education needs. Correct usage of speech and language patterns, and oral communications, including basic linguistics.
Normal speech, language, and hearing development. Basic instructional methods and techniques. Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Any combination equivalent to : hold a current SPLA license and some experience working with students in an educational or organized learning environment.
Some experience working with school aged children with speech and language disorders preferred. Incumbents must meet requirements specified under every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Special Qualifications upon hire for positions at a school site that is supported by Title I funds include : Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education OR Obtained an associate's or higher degree (college level) OR Met (pass) a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Valid California Class C Driver's License. The ability to speak, read and write in English and a designated second language is desirable.
