Controller
Position Summary
Reporting to the CFO, this position manages all accounting and finance functions and leads the accounting team. The primary responsibility areas include general ledger maintenance, creation of financial statements, grant accounting and reporting, allocations of shared costs, ensuring compliance with Uniform Administrative Requirements and contract terms and conditions.
This is all performed while verifying the integrity and accuracy of financial operations, safeguarding organizational assets, and developing efficient business processes.
This leadership role is also responsible for overseeing certain contracts as it relates to financial reporting, revising financial policies and maintaining internal controls over financial transactions.

- Manage general accounting functions and accounting staff, including interns. Lead and direct the work of others.
- Oversee the completion of general ledger entries and financial statements.
- Verify, post, and approve all transactions that are properly documented in accordance with accounting standards, segregation of duties, and government regulations.
- Prepare and analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and contractual funding source regulations and requirements.
- Maintain sufficient funds by forecasting cash requirements and obligations.
- Review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile differences and prepare adjusting journal entries. Reconcile bank and cash accounts.
- Oversee processing Accounts Payable invoices, issue checks and ACH payments, and correspond with vendors and administrative staff.
- Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
- Lead the preparation of financial statements for auditors and assist with financial audits, single audits for federal contracts and other contract audits.
- Evaluate and make appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes, ensuring that financial practices align with the organization's overall goals.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
- Provide financial projections by coordinating budget / forecast preparation; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial information;
advising departments of the collection and analysis of data.
- Assist in overall budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Accounting, or Finance from an accredited college or university
- Active CPA license.
- 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is necessary.
- Experience with non-profits and Microsoft Dynamics Business Central software is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of principles published in Government Accounting manuals and familiarity with auditing and reporting requirements for Federal, State, and local grants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Accuracy of work and close attention to detail
- Prior supervisor experience is desirable.
Preferred :
- Advanced Degree in Accounting or related field
- Non-profit experience preferred
- Proficiency in use of computers, computer accounting software, and tax software programs
Physical Requirements :
