PATIENT POPULATION :
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services and in consultation with the Medical Director, the Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for patient care, comfort and completion of required procedures.
Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Must be able to work normal / scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call.
Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as an RCP in the state of California.
Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have and maintain ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department.
Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
- Indicates Essential Function
- Performs Respiratory Care procedures in response to patient needs, physician direction / orders, and within the limits of established facility policies / procedures.
- Assesses the Respiratory status of assigned patients through physical exam, chart review and response to ordered therapies, and recommendations, when appropriate, to ensure an optimal level of response to the intervention.
- Corrects and adjusts Respiratory Care equipment, communicates operational theory to other health care professionals, and recommends technology most appropriate to maximize patient comfort and safety, and provides effective and appropriate use of technology.
- Provides educational support for patients / families during delivery of Respiratory Care Services, discharge planning, and outpatient procedures as well as other health care team members who are involved with patient care including detailed documentation of education.
- Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. The age groups of the patients served are Neo-Nate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
- Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
- Is actively involved in all departmental Performance Improvement and Quality Assurances processes.
