Position Summary
Provides program support for the Community Outreach Department. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementing classroom school outreach lessons using a variety of resources and Virginia Standards of Learning-aligned lesson plans, and participating in activities for community outreach events (including evenings and weekends). Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
- Provides presentations and assists in hosting activities for school classrooms, clubs, civic groups, HOAs, libraries, businesses and target audiences.
- Participates in Community Outreach events that are often held on the weekends and / or evenings. These events vary and may include serving water, interacting with event participants (customers and community members), managing interactive games, etc.
- Assists in the development and distribution of various educational materials such as flyers, lesson plans and activities.
- Assists in creating community education and outreach messaging such as flyers, web content and social media posts.
- As part of a team, works with local organizations, governments and other water and wastewater utilities to collaborate on community outreach opportunities and projects.
- Assists with coordinating and executing other Community Outreach-led events such as the Water Art Invitational, Water Academy, Trick or Treatment and Kidz@Work.
- Assists in promoting educational programs for identified target audiences in Prince William County, including outreach to elementary, middle, and high school students and internal and external Prince William Water events.
- Operate a Prince William Water vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university with a major in Education, Environmental Science, Communications or related field. If enrolled in an undergraduate program, must be a sophomore, junior or senior upon employment.Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.Required Licenses / Certifications and other Special Requirements :
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license consistent with Prince William Water policy requirements.Minimum Lead / Supervisory or Management Experience :
