Our Mission is to Map the Universe of Biology.
As the pioneer in the field of , NanoString enables scientists across the globe to envision molecular interactions in three dimensions with three different systems, the , the (DSP) and the (SMI) platform.
As a result, scientists can see the multiomic expression of genes and proteins in the natural context of tissue structure.
The secret sauce to the company’s success is our people, who are committed to excellence and dedicated to catalyzing the next biological revolution.
Collectively, we live our corporate values of ambition, grit, ingenuity, authenticity, and customers every day.
The Engineer I / II works closely with a cross functional team to help improve the existing NanoString platforms, primarily CosMx and GeoMx.
The Engineer is responsible for supporting and servicing instruments within R&D, and secondarily assist in next generation development as needed.
The work involved will be highly interdisciplinary including elements of optics, fluidics, hardware control, and software.
The individual in this role will regularly interact with hardware engineers, molecular biology scientists, software engineers etc.
Ideal candidate for this role will be self-motivated, keen on learning to troubleshoot hardware problems and excited to work in an everchanging R&D environment.

- Maintain and support NanoString Platforms within R&D onsite in Seattle. Engage with various stakeholders and resolve issues as they arise in a timely manner.
- Provide feedback to internal teams to address failure points and make system reliability improvements
- Support in the development of new instruments, measurements, testing, and analysis
- Support both commercial systems with official procedures and prototype systems with less documented information
- For commercial systems, complete new equipment installations, preventative maintenance activities, and emergency repairs with proper supporting documentation in compliance with Quality Assurance procedures
- Communicate with internal customers, both in person and via electronic means, and interact with systems for tracking logging issues / status.
Minimum Qualifications :
- B.S. in biomedical, mechanical, electrical or related engineering field
- Strong troubleshooting skills. Specifically, in the areas of : General electronics, electromechanical systems, automation, liquid handlers, computers, and associated networking components
- Capable of working independently and in a team environment, communicating relevant scientific data effectively in oral and written format, working in a timely manner to meet defined deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications :
- 2-5 years of experience working as an engineer in the life sciences industry or relevant field service
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments preferably in the biotech / life science / automation field(s).
- Experience performing development / maintenance / repair work on prototype instruments
- Ability to diagnose software / hardware errors in prototype systems preferably those used for biomolecular assays
- Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy and automated mechatronic systems
- Experience with automation of hardware testing through software programming (Python or C# preferred)
- Experience in fabricating prototype parts through machining / 3D printing will be a plus
- Experience with mechanical CAD software (preferably SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Experience with automating basic data plotting and analysis
