Description :

The Radiography Technologist is responsible for performing radiography (x-ray) examinations on patients while adhering to radiation safety protocols.

This entails preparing patients, administering contrast agents, and ensuring the technical quality of images. They accurately and efficiently enter and monitor patient data, conduct quality assurance checks on equipment, and assist with accreditation applications.

In the event of accidents or equipment malfunctions, they promptly report incidents to management. They have flexible scheduling and may handle emergency calls and administer diagnostic tests as necessary.

Furthermore, they provide support for patient registration tasks and prioritize safety, compliance, and professional development.

With a focus on patient education and care, they review orders, administer medications, and closely monitor patient conditions.

They also ensure equipment readiness, troubleshoot malfunctions, and accurately perform imaging procedures, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in patient care and safety.

The minimum qualifications for this position include graduating from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and holding relevant certifications in Basic or Advanced Life Support and Radiology.

Principal Accountabilities :

Radiography Exams : Conduct radiography (x-ray) examinations on patients while strictly adhering to radiation safety protocols.

This entails thorough patient preparation, including obtaining vital signs, explaining procedures, and administering intravenous (IV) and contrast agents when necessary.

Ensure accurate patient positioning, selection of appropriate imaging techniques, and maintenance of high technical image quality.

  • Patient Data Management : Efficiently input and monitor patient data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Quality Assurance : Perform regular quality assurance checks on radiology equipment to uphold optimal performance standards.

Collaborate in the accreditation process with organizations such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.

  • Incident Reporting : Promptly identify and report any accidents, complaints, or equipment malfunctions to departmental management, following established reporting protocols and procedures.
  • Emergency Call and Schedule Flexibility : Respond to emergency call duties within the department as required and demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling, including weekend shifts and potential assignments to other locations, to support operational needs.
  • Diagnostic Testing : Administer breath alcohol tests and urine drug screens when necessary, following standardized procedures and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Patient Registration Support : Assist with patient registration tasks, such as verifying insurance coverage, collecting payments, and updating patient information in the system, to facilitate efficient departmental operations as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance : Uphold a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by strictly adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.

This includes time management, supply management, and service quality.

Professional Development : Continuously pursue professional growth and development by fulfilling mandatory educational requirements and actively supporting departmental goals.

Act as a mentor and resource for junior staff members, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.

Patient Education and Care : Review patient history and physician's orders, educate patients on procedures and equipment, and administer contrast media and medications as prescribed.

Monitor patient condition closely, responding promptly and appropriately to any changes in status.

Equipment Preparation and Maintenance : Prepare imaging equipment and supplies for procedures, ensuring adherence to safety standards and conducting regular quality control checks.

Address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize disruptions in service delivery.

Imaging Procedure Execution : Ensure precise patient positioning and accurate execution of imaging procedures. Analyze imaging results for quality and promptly report any issues, taking proactive measures such as repositioning patients or repeating procedures as necessary.

Transmit and report scan results promptly and accurately to facilitate timely patient care and treatment decisions.

Requirements

  • Education : Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Licenses / Certifications :
  • Radiology License.
  • Certification in Basic or Advanced Life Support (BLS / ALS), required.
  • Registered Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R), required.
  • Physical Requirements : Ability to lift and maneuver patients with assistance to perform job functions effectively.
